Typos – How Acceptable Are They?

Word typos are very common, be it for a banner, content for a website design and development, an email, a presentation, a proposal, a resume or a comment at a blog or social networking website. To Err Is Human, is so rightly said but errors can be acceptable at some places and not at others.  Especially when it comes to resumes, logos, invoices, legal documents, typos are just unacceptable. If you are paying for a content writing service to a professional website making firm, there’s no reason you would accept content with typos.  You should always try to avoid typographical errors, misspellings and grammatical flubs, as these can have a bad impact on the company’s image and quality standards.

  • Wait for at least 4 -6 hours after writing down something, get back and read it aloud to yourself after that stretch of time and you will find errors you could not catch when you cross checked right after the write-up.
  • Ask someone else to do the quality check for your content.
  • Use your spell checker but do not rely it more than your own eyes and brain.
  • Do not mix up professional and casual social writing techniques. Remember writing a ‘how r u’ or ‘thnku’ would work on facebook and twitter, where you have limited writing space or are just writing casually but this will definitely not work in email to a client or a professional write up.
  • Do not forget to confirm the telephone and fax numbers and names of places and other proper nouns.
  • In case of an invoice, do not miss to check for the decimals or the zeros.
  • While using the same saved document for another individual, be sure to check the date, name and related details.
  • Any last minute additions or edits should be double checked before a final print.

Typos in graphic designs or logo designs are a big blunder, no good logo designing company shall let that happen at all. It’s those very few words that speak in such areas. We see typos here and there on banners, newspapers and laugh out at them not realizing they are affecting the market value of the company and the brand. Some typos can really cost you, your image.
